2012 Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Association Triple Crown Info

As the details are finalized we will update this information page.  Points totals to date

As part of the 2012 CWIRA season we will be running a Triple Crown series including the three race events held as part of the USSA/TLR Cup Triple Crown Snowmobile Race Series.  Those three events are the Portage County Ice Wars January 8, Wausau 525 January 29 and Weyauwega Fire On Ice February 12.

IMPORTANT ROUND TWO UPDATE:  Due to time conflicts Round Two of the CWIRA Triple Crown needed to be re-scheduled.  It will take place at the CWIRA Mid-Season Championship event at Lake Arbutis, Hatfield on February 5th and will follow the normal CWIRA race day schedule - sign-up opens at 8, practice starts at 9 and racing by 11 am.  Round three will still be as planned at Weyauwega, and have the EARLY start times similar to Amherst - sign up at six with racing by 8am.

All three of these events will be regular full schedule CWIRA championship points events running all the regular classes and awarding points as they normally would at any event.  The Triple Crown will be earned on the basis of total regular points earned at those three races only, and only for the classes receiving special Triple Crown awards - Open Pro Bike, Open Pro Quad and Outlaw Pro Rubber ATV.

The USSA and promoters of the three events making up the Triple Crown have modified the normal race order of their respective snowmobile events, and the CWIRA race order has also been modified to take advantage of the particular requirements of each racing class.  Each type of racer within the CWIRA (rubber quad, studded quad and motorcycle) has unique track condition requirements - as do the different snowmobiles racing USSA events.  The race order will be staggered to intermix these classes and hopefully eliminate race day track maintenance, or at least reduce it to a minimum.  The goal is continual racing action on the track from the first green flag to the last checkered with no interruption.  Not only will this provide the spectators with the best action the CWIRA and USSA have to offer, it will allow all the respective classes quality track time and a safe, competitive event.

Race Day Payout: Cash payout classes will have additional amounts.  At Amherst the Open Pro Bike Class will pay a minimum of $500 to win from CrashedToys.comOpen Pro Quad and Outlaw Pro Rubber ATV (and Open Pro Bike at the other two events - Wausau/Hatfield and Weyauwega) will also have added payout.

Triple Crown Series Payout:  The Triple Crown Series will also payout an additional minimum of $2000 based on points earned at these three events in the Open Pro Bike, Open Pro Quad and Outlaw Pro Rubber ATV classes.  You must race all three events to be eligible for the Series awards which will be paid out at the CWIRA Banquet.  Points awarded by the regular CWIRA points schedule and in the case of a tie the finishing position at the final race at Weyauwega will be the tie breaker.

Kold-Kutter Ice Racing Screws has provided $1500 towards the prize fund.  Coming up on February 11th & 12th they will also be sponsoring the $5000 Kold Kutter Pro Shootout at Cadillac, MI - more info at www.koldkutter.com.  Note that the date for this event has changed - detailed update information available here.

The "Order of The Day" will be adjusted for these three races to incorporate the track condition needs of each class.  The race day will start at 7am, with the first race on the track at 8.  The planned order can be seen here on the USSA site.  To print from a .pdf copy click here.

If you are a regular CWIRA Racer, you do not need to do anything to be a part of the Triple Crown.  There will be no additional entry fees or other requirements, however the gate fees will be higher at these events.  The gate fee is set at the discretion of each Triple Crown promoter - check their web sites for details.

If you are not a CWIRA member or are only racing these three events:  The CWIRA welcomes non-members at all our events.  However if you are not a CWIRA member you will have to purchase a "one day" membership at each of the events for $10 per weekend - or you can simply join the CWIRA for $30.  Here's a link with info.  Regular CWIRA Rules will be enforced at these events so PLEASE familiarize yourself with our procedures and classes BEFORE you show up at the gate!  Link to the 2012 CWIRA Rulebook

Note that directions, event-specific information and special rate hotel info will be on each of the snowmobile race web sites.
